Cytovance Completes First Batch in New Microbial Facility

Gets 30,000-sq.-ft. facility up and running four months early

Cytovance Biologics, Inc., a biopharmaceutical contract manufacturer of mammalian and microbial biologics, has completed its first batch in its new 1000L microbial facility.

The 30,000-sq.-ft. facility houses a 14L fermentor, a 300L SUF and a 1000L working volume Dakota Fermentor, as well as a GEA Homogenizer, Alfa Laval MBPX810 Disc Stack Centrifuge and a P-12 Powerfuge. The purification suite features 2 x 5000L imPULSE Mixers for refolding, Chromatography skid, a Millipore TFF Skid, 1” & 10mm AKTA Process and AKTA Ready, all with gradient function.

“The Cytovance team has successfully completed our first run in our new state-of-the-art microbial facility,” said Michael O Mara, senior vice president of manufacturing. “It was a great moment for the late phase client and the entire Cytovance team.”

“The upstream material is processed by the downstream purification equipment,” said Stephanie Wickham, director of Manufacturing Sciences.  “Our 2x5000L imPULSE Mixers give us exactly what we need for our refold processes. Highly efficient mixing with very low shear rates, is critical in the protein refolding process and with a large turndown ratio, we have the ability to process at a variety of refold volumes.”

Cytovance was able to have its new building running four months earlier than expected by reallocating resources and hiring external contractors to improve efficiencies in equipment.
